The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to approve Rs 2.59 per unit cut in the price of electricity on account of monthly fuel price adjustment for the month of October.

The sources in NEPRA told Pakistan Today that the CPPA has submitted a petition with the regulator and asked to approve reduction in the per unit price of electricity by Rs 2.59 for the month of October under the head monthly fuel price adjustment. They said that the CPPA informed the authority that total 8.49 billion units of electricity were sold to power distributing companies (DISCOs) at the cost of Rs 40.27 billion.

The sources further said that DISCOs had collected additional Rs 22 billion in October from the consumers due to non-implementation of new tariff. They said federal government had obtained a stay order against the tariff, due to which the DISCOs have been charging the consumers with additional charges.

The sources also revealed that regulator would announce its decision on CPPA’s petition on November 24 and power consumers would find worthy relief if the NEPRA approved the CPPA request.
