  • Says parliament boycott should not be mistaken for opposition to Turkish president

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Thursday that after a long struggle, his party had finally managed to bring the country’s chief executive to the court where he was being questioned about his deeds.

Addressing a press conference at his Bani Gala residence, Imran Khan said it was heartening to see that the bench was trying to conduct the proceedings at a fast pace. He pointed out many gaps and contradictions in the statements given by Sharif family. “Even the bench has noticed contradictions. However, it is too early to draw a conclusion regarding the outcome of the case,” he said.

“The letter of the Qatri prince has added a new dimension to the case. More time and attention is required to get to the bottom of this,” he said.

Criticising government ministers, the PTI chairman said that in a democratic state, ministers were responsible for defending government policies. “However, most of the ministers here are just defending the illegal and unlawful deeds of the Sharif family. They take pride in serving the interests of the ruling family instead of the state,” he said.

Referring to the PTI’s decision not to attend the joint session, he said that the relations between Pakistan and Turkey were deeply-rooted and people of the two countries were linked with an unbreakable bond. “The only purpose behind moving away from the Parliament is to stress that Nawaz Sharif lacks legitimacy to keep functioning as the chief executive of the country after he was caught red-handed in a range of offenses. In addition, to this, the federal and the Punjab governments are responsible for committing brutalities against peaceful protesters on October 31,” he said.

Responding to a question regarding the evidence submitted by the PTI in the apex court, Imran Khan said that his legal team had plenty of proof regarding corruption, money laundering and other offenses committed by the PM and his family members. “The evidence will be brought before the apex court,” he said.

To a question regarding his visit to UK, the PTI chairman said that his visit was private in nature and primary objective of his trip was to meet his children.
