The Lahore High Court on Thursday accepted a petition for hearing seeking the extension of Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.
According to reports, LHC has accepted the petition that cited the ‘prominent success’ of operation Zarb-e-Azb as the main reason for the COAS’ extension.
The petitioner, Advocate Ghazi Ilmuddin, pleaded to the court that the ongoing war against terrorism under the COAS has culminated into stability and peace in the country and to ensure the further ‘progression and continuity’ it was indispensable for the chief to avail the extension in his tenure.
The army chief is due to retire on Nov 28 this year and Joint Chief of Staff Committee Chairman Gen. Rashad Mahmood will be retiring a day prior to the army chief, on Nov 27.
