The recent, horrific incident that took place in Sialkot on November 12, 2016 has shaken the entire nation to its core. Not only was this a crime against humanity but also an act of disrespect towards the minorities of this country.
This incident may be the worst thing happening to the already stumbling and devastated community of transgender people. These people may be a little different from the majority of people but they are still living, breathing humans with intellect and emotions just like the rest of us. Being different does not mean that others around them have permission to mistreat them in the worst way possible. Physical, mental and sexual abuse – and that too, all at the same time – is what happened to these individuals in Sialkot that day. I’m afraid the agony these people had to face is beyond comprehension.
This kind of despicable behaviour has to come to end if we want to see our country succeed as a nation regardless of its citizens’ religion, gender, cast and creed. Therefore, I implore the concerned officials to look into the matter, bring justice to the mistreated, and to deal with the criminals associated with this horrendous act with an iron hand.
