Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak offered the Chinese public sector company long term partnership in hydel power generation, exploration and exploitation oil and gas in the province.
“KP has potential discovered and undiscovered advantages that need to be harnessed for the benefit of the people of this province’, he added. He said this while signing an agreement with M/S China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited (Energy China) for production of 225 MW electricity in Hattar Industrial Estate. The cheap energy so generated would be provided to the industries to boost industrial development in the province. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Pakhtunkhwa House Islamabad by the China Energy CEO and Industries Special Secretary in presence of KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Special Assistant to CM Abdul Karim Khan, MNA Imran Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) Chairman Ghulam Dastagir, Energy and Power secretary.
As per the agreement/MoU, China Energy would not only conduct feasibility but also establish a 225 MW combined cycle gas turbine project at Hattar in Independent Power Producer (IPP) mode or any other agreed arrangements. The electricity will be produced from the extra generated gas the provincial government had already got approved from the federal government recently. The provincial government, its EZDMC and Energy and Power Department will not only be obliged to provide and assist in the provision of gas supply, investigation and topographic survey for the feasibility study but also make available relevant local technical information like seismic, geotechnical, transmission and fuel interconnection and meteorological date etc as well as security.
Earlier, the chief minister briefed the Chinese delegation in detail about the investment opportunities in KP and the incentives made available by his government to such investors. He invited the Chinese investors to also avail the opportunity of investment in hydel power generation. The CM also informed the Chinese delegation about the facilitation of investors and acceleration of industrialization through KPEZDMC. China Energy CEO Xiang Yuntao Ali Ozge evinced deep interest in investment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and appreciated the facilities provided to investors. He said that it was just a start and hoped that his multinational company would increase long term investment in the province for mutual interest of the people of the two friendly and brotherly countries.
