Despite a severe attack of paralysis, my grandfather was sent back home as no more hospital beds were available. His critical condition proved to be fatal and that was his last night in this world. This is the story of Jinnah Hospital, Lahore – in the capital of Punjab that is known to be the hub of the ruling party. Such stories are heard on regular basis and they should act as an eye opener for the politicians but Alas! The government’s interest towards the development of infrastructure and lack of concentration towards the health and education is worsening the condition of common man day by day. This high level of concrete that is replacing greenery of the city is an environmental threat as well as a serious health hazard in years to come. Along with this, arrogant behaviour of the doctors and mismanagement in the government hospitals, is converting life saving institutes into death beds.
At the present time, where infrastructure is far better than the health facilities, the government needs to reconsider their priorities, and health sector should be taken up on an immediate notice. Poor conditions of hospitals and regular protest of young doctors should be addressed as soon as possible to save the lives of hundreds of Pakistanis.
