The Sindh Food Authority bill will be tabled in the next session of the Sindh Assembly to set up standards for edible products to ensure food quality throughout the province.
This was stated by the Sindh Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, a former Food Minister, while speaking as a chief guest in the 9th Seminar on “Importance of ISO Standards” on occasion of 3rd Consumer Standards Awards 2016 to commemorate World Standards Day 2016. The day was jointly organized by The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) and Consumer Voice Pakistan (CVP) with the support of IPO Pakistan. The minister said that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure and inspect harmful food supplies by different companies; not only at the corporate but also at the street level and that the government was committed to the task.
Earlier in his welcome address Umar Ghauri Chairman TCEP said that without ISO standards, there would be no confidence in the global supply chain of goods and services that most of us so readily take for granted.
From tech gadgets to office and household items, to services that fuel the global economy, standards are necessary to ensure safety, dependability, and interoperability.
Umar Ghauri further said that the delayed set-up of Sindh Food authority is a cause of concern as sale of sub-standard, adulterated and counterfeit products continue because of criminally negligent government authorities such as the PSQCA.
