The Supreme Court of Pakistan accepted the plea to delay the hanging of Imdad Hussain, a 50-year-old schizophrenic man convicted in 2002 for murdering a cleric.

A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali, heard the case. The court has sought five names of medical experts from Punjab advocate general to form the medical board to examine the mental state of Imdad Hussain. The court had already issued order to halt the hanging of Imdad Hussain.

During the hearing, the CJ remarked that Imdad Hussain’s record has been disappeared adding that Imdad Hussain had given true answers to all questions in front of the trial court’s judge.

The CJ said that the court could not granted permission to send the case in trail court again adding that the SC has already maintained the high court’s verdict regarding Imdad Hussain’s hanging.

The CJ remarked that execution could be postponed but punishment could not be ended. CJP Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked, “We have not cogent evidence to prove Imdad Hussain as schizophrenic patient.”

The court said that it was not a tough job to arrange any fake medical certificate in the country like that certificate which has been furnished in the court.

He said that all of a sudden some NGOs and organizations had become active to halt the hanging of Imdad Hussain. The court has sought all the record including jail history ticket of Imdad Hussain from 2001 till today and adjourned the hearing till Wednesday.
