Petroleum and Natural Resources Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that although the focus of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is to trade, he hopes that the project will also lead to joint oil and gas projects between the countries.
“We are hopeful that Chinese oil and gas companies will invest in the energy sector and as well as other spheres,” he said.
Abbasi said this while speaking to the Chinese news agency Xinhua after the recently concluded Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC).
On the possibility of joint investments in liquefied natural gas (LNG), the minister said, “China, like Pakistan, is an importer of LNG, but we are in discussion with various Chinese firms as they have the relevant technology to explore and export LNG.”
