PML-N Senator Nehal Hashmi on Friday said that ‘the last symbol of terror’ has been removed from the Governor’s House with the appointment of a new governor.

While Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said Hashmi’s statement did not represent the PML-N or government’s stance. It was his personal statement, she clarified.

“Yes, it was a personal opinion I expressed as citizen of Karachi who lived in a terror-stricken city,” he said. “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has made it a peaceful city after the Karachi operation. I thanked him for that,” he clarified. “Today a governor who believes in peace and rule of law was sworn in,” he added.

“I did not say anything about the governor,” he continued. “I spoke about the eras of dictatorship [under former president Musharraf] and the founder of the MQM. I did not say anything about the former governor. Today an era of peace has begun, and a governor who is seen with respect by all Pakistanis sworn in.”

When asked whether he denied his earlier statements, he said, “I will neither confirm, nor will I deny my statements,” he said.

Hashmi, while talking to journalists after the oath-taking ceremony of new Sindh Governor Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman, said, ‘Today marks the end of the era of Altaf Hussain and of those who don’t believe in Pakistan’.

“A terrorist organisation had a hold on this post,” he said, in a veiled reference to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. “Today the last traces of terrorism have been removed.”

“Around 14 years ago, during Musharraf’s era, anti-Pakistan people took over this position,” he said. “Today the PML-N has a hold here. Those who are well-wishers of Nawaz Sharif, democracy and the common man have a hold here.”

Former Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad on Friday rebuffed allegations of PML-N Senator Nehal Hashmi, saying why the Senator used to meet him when he was serving as a governor.

He said that he did not know what he had done with the senator, questioning that why the Senator Nehal used to meet him if he was involved in criminal cases. He thanked the federal government for terming the statement as personal views.

  1. Senator Nehals statement shows the immaturity of politicians. If so was the case then why the hell (N) was tolerating him more 3 years. We all must give space to Urdu speaking leadership in Karachi. One cannot blame them only, all of us particularly politicians and the military dictators are to blame also who has been allowing the anti Indians working in Pakistan even though they knew it that it's a serious threat to the integrity and economy of Pakistan. The credit should go PMN(N) and present military leadership who are now on page one to eradicate terrorism of any kind in Pakistan in order make Islamic Republic of Pakistan a vast growing economical power.
