CTD arrests mastermind of 2009 deadly masjid blast in Lower Dir

Alleged mastermind militant of the deadly suicide bombing in the masjid in Lower DIR in the way back 2009 wherein 33 people were killed including 12 children, was arrested by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Malakand Range from Chakdara area, Lower DIR on Thursday.

According to an official Ayaz Khan of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Malakand Range, the CTD police party in an operation carried out arrested an alleged terrorist involved in a deadly suicide bombing.

He said the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had carried out a targeted operation in Sheringal area after receiving inputs from secret agencies about the presence of wanted terrorist in the area.

Following the raid, CTD arrested an alleged terrorist identified as Sheraz alias Sheherzada. According to CTD, he was the facilitator in a suicide attack on a masjid in the Haya Gai area of Upper Dir in 2009 in which 33 people, including seven children, were killed. He is associated with a banned outfit, said CTD.

He was shifted to undisclosed location for further interrogation. At least 33 people were killed and another 70 injured during Friday prayers on June 5, 2009, when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a mosque in Hayagai Sharqai village in Upper Dir District.
