Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad has said that villages’ electrification and gasification was his priority.
He said this while presiding over a meeting on villages’ electrification and gasification. “I am working hard to generate electricity through renewable and coal-based projects and simultaneously working to provide electricity and gas to villages.”
Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) Mohammad Waseem briefing the chief minister said that Rs 1300 million have been allocated for villages’ electrification during the current financial year.
The Sindh government has released Rs 1 billion to the Energy Department which has onward released Rs 272.94 million to SEPCO to provide electricity to 247 small villages. The HESCO has also been given Rs 253.33 million for electrification of 175 schemes.
The chief minister directed him to take up the issues of villages’ electrification with concerned authorities so that villagers would be facilitated by providing them electricity.
The chief minister was also briefed that Rs 1.2 billion have been allocated for village gasification. There are 88 schemes. The chief minister also issued directives to follow the SSGC for gasification. “Our rural women are still using traditional stove in which wood and dung are burnt for cooking food. Now it is our duty to get them rid of old system and provide them gas to cook food on gas stoves,” he said.
While presiding over another meeting on Rs 10 million Karachi package, the Sindh CM ordered the reconstruction of the Shahra-e-Jamia (University Road).
He also directed the concerned authorities to complete the on-going schemes on priority basis and finalize the required formalities on the schemes to be taken up this month.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) M. Waseem, Principal Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, Finance Secretary Hassan Naqvi, Karachi Package PD Niaz Soomro and others.
Project PD Niaz Soomro, briefing the chief minister, said that the schemes of rehabilitation of road from Do Talwar to Metropole Hotel via Teen Talwar Clifton launched at Rs 110 million, was started in August 2016. Presently its physical propgress was 77 percent and it would be completed in December, 2016, he added.
