Allama Iqbal’s 139th birth anniversary being observed today

Pakistani philosopher poet and the conceiver of the idea of Pakistan, Muhammad Iqbal’s (Allama Iqbal) 139th birth anniversary is being celebrated today with enthusiasm.

Various literary, educational, political, social and cultural organisations have arranged special programmes, across the country, to pay homage to the national poet.

In his message on the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said, “South Asia can be made a base for regional peace by seeking guidance from the lofty thoughts of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.”

“Allama Iqbal not only dreamt of Pakistan and presented a roadmap for a safe future for the Muslims of South Asia but also indicated the ideological and practical problems the new country could face,” the PM said.

“It was the collective responsibility of the government and the people to take guidance from Iqbal’s thoughts and contribute to the country’s development,” he added.
