Shehla Raza, the Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly and a member of the PPP, has said that today she received a letter at her office, demanding Rs. 500 million, and promising her death if not paid. The letter also threatened to explode a bomb near the Sindh assembly, unless the sum was paid. The relevant authorities have been informed of this letter, which was posted from Rawalpindi.
Counter-terrorism chief meets Shehla Raza
Additional IG Counter Terrorism Department Sanaullah Abbasi reached the Sindh Assembly to meet Shehla Raza on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media, Raza said that if you speak against evil you are bound to get threats. She added that her party had always been vocal against terrorism.
She said that she has handed a list of phone numbers from which she received threats to the police. She added that some of them come from international phone numbers including a London phone number, however the phone caller speaks clear Urdu.
In 2008 Shehla Raza claimed she had received threatening phone calls for speaking out against a militant outfit.
A phone number written on the letter belongs to a man named Abdul Basit, a resident of Jhang, who claims he did not any threatening note to the deputy speaker.
He added that he had 25 acres of disputed land at Naushero Feroz. Speaking to Geo News, he said that three people Shahzeb Panhur, Sikander Goraya and Shabbir Khan Jan had given him life threats. He said he had filed a request against them with the Rangers.
