PTI objects to commission formed to probe planted story

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday has rejected the inquiry committee formed by the government to probe news story of an English paper that allegedly was a threat to national security.

PTI chairman Imran Khan said the planted story was an attack on national security and was leaked at the time of Indian aggression. Imran Khan further said the story leak conspired to undermine civil-military relations.

Presiding over a party meeting over the issue of security leaks, Imran Khan raised questions over the committee chairman Justice (rted.) Aamer Raza with regard to his close relations with Sharif family, adding he had previously been the candidate to become the caretaker chief minister as well.

On Monday, the government formed the committee which will probe the story.

The leader of PTI also demanded the government to bound the commission with a due date of the verdict. Khan further said that there was no need for a probe in the first place when Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar claimed earlier that he knew who fed the news to the media.

A news story that was published in an English newspaper on October 6 claimed of a confrontation between army and the government behind closed doors in a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSG) presided over by Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif.

The government denied the report and termed it baseless as well as the army.
