Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi, while addressing a session on Security Council Reforms at the UN General Assembly has said that Pakistan firmly opposes the creation of new permanent seats in the Security Council.
Maleeha Lodhi termed the creation of new permanent seats as the antithesis of principles enshrined in the UN Charter.
However, she said that Pakistan supports the expansion of non-permanent seats in the Security Council to make it more democratic, accountable, transparent and effective.
