NAB to investigate 38 cases of irregularities in CDA

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed 38 references against Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials found guilty of corrupt practices in performance of their duties.

The references are filed with the NAB despite the fact that departmental enquires are underway and similar cases are under investigation by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Out of 38 cases under investigation with the NAB, some high-profile cases include shuttle service in diplomatic enclave. It was alleged that by practicing favoritism, the contract has been given to a company that was already a defaulter of the CDA.

Other cases under investigation by NAB include the one involving offer of residential plots to 113 officers, discrepancies in payments made to Margalla Tower affectees, embezzlement/misappropriation of license fee in Directorate of Municipal Authority, irregularities pertaining to Multi Professional Housing Cooperative Housing Society E-11, theft of street light poles from Koral Chowk to Rawat Islamabad Highway.

NAB is also investigating three references about double allotment of commercial plots in Sector I-14. The land and estate directorate and planning directorate the primary bodies that deal with auctioning of commercial plots in capital’s sectors.

Plots that are reserved for schools and their allotment to favorites have also been under investigation at NAB.

Reference to investigate the Lok Virsa, Vanguard Books, M. S Book Finders, plot no. 26, F-6 Markaz is pending due to lack non provision of the original file.

The infamous Grand Hyatt tower, whose lease had been cancelled few months back by the CDA, NAB took up the matter back in 2014 and with lapse of two years and cancellation of plot later, NAB is yet to conclude its investigation. A similar reference on Centrus twin tower is yet to be heard by NAB.

Besides aforementioned high profile cases, NAB has filed several references against deputy director generals, assistant directors, audit officers and other officials for their involvement in corruption, misuse of official authority and connivance in illegal allotments, promotions and postings.
