Delhi Chief Minister today called for an emergency cabinet meeting on the issue of rising air pollution, India Today reported.
“Instead of politicising Delhi’s pollution issue, we need to solve it together,” said CM Arvind Kejriwal after holding an emergency cabinet meet.
“Request Delhiites to work from home whenever possible. For next 5 days, all the construction and demolition work will be shut,” said Kejriwal.
ODD-EVEN SCHEME MAY BE BACK
“Odd-even scheme may be implemented again, Health Department will issue an advisory,” said Kejriwal.
Kejriwal has also asked people to refrain from burning leaves adding that water will be sprinkled on the streets to reduce the pollution.
“Badarpur thermal plant will also be closed for 10 days,” added Kejriwal.
WORST SMOG IN 17 YEARS
The Indian capital is facing the worst smog in 17 years with peak level of respirable pollutants PM 2.5 and PM10 crossing the safe limits.
Hundreds of people, including children today protested at Jantar Mantar over the deteriorating air quality in the national capital, demanding the government to take effective initiatives to curb the rising air pollution.
Delhi on Saturday saw the worst air pollution of the seasons. The smog that hung low over the city kept pollution levels extremely high breaching the safe limit by over 17 times at several places.
