PTI, PAT express concerns over news leak probe

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday expressed suspicions over government’s decision of setting up an inquiry into news leak of security meeting through a committee headed by a retired high court judge.

PTI Secretary Information Naeemul Haq while talking to media men said that the head of the committee must be a serving Supreme Court judge. Inquiry committee should also have a right to question Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he said.

Meanwhile, PAT chief Tahir ul Qadri termed this decision as a “joke with the national security”, and labeled it as a clean chit to the government.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Satuarday had announced that a retired high court judge would head the committee meant to establish the identity of the person who provided information regarding a high-level meeting of top civilian and military officials, held last month, to the reporter.

He further said the names of proposed members of the inquiry committee had been sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the committee would be formed early next week.

The minister said that the committee would work in a free and transparent manner and Pervaiz Rashid would not be the target of this inquiry, but the person who leaked the information.

The prime minister also wanted to establish the identity of that person, Chaudhry Nisar said.
