The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to approach the Peshawar High Court against what it calls the non-fulfilment of promises on the part of the federal government concerning the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser will file the petition with the high court on behalf of the KP government.
The federal government had pledged to give the provincial government its rightful share in the CPEC plan, but the promise was not kept, Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani, a spokesperson for the KP government said, while talking to a private news channel on Sunday.
He said the federal government did not even provide the provincial government with the documents related to CPEC.
“Work has only been started on one adjoining road in the province. Apart from that there are no facilities being given to the government,” Ghani said.
He said it was similar to keeping KP bereft of benefits of the CPEC project.
The spokesman said that a resolution had also been approved in the KP assembly unanimously to give the province its rightful share.
Ghani said all the parliamentary parties had given the speaker the right to take the legal course regarding the province’s rights.
