The law enforcement agencies Sunday (today) arrested religious leader Allama Mirza Yousuf Hussain and the leader of a banned outfit from Lyari.

In the latest crackdown, LEAs took into custody Taj Hanif, leader of the banned Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ),

However, the prominent Shia scholar Yousuf Hussain was taken into custody from his residence in Karachi’s Nazimabad area.

The cleric has been moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

A heavy contingent of Rangers carried out the operation last night at 3 am.

However, charges against Mirza Yousuf Hussain were not immediately known.

The arrest comes hours after police arrested Faisal Raza Abidi, former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator, from his house in New Rizvia Society on Saturday.

Abidi was arrested in connection with the killings of two persons in Patel Para area a day earlier.

The murders happened on Friday as armed pillion riders shot two men dead near the Fatima Bai Hospital and fled. A spokesman of the outlawed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) had yesterday claimed that the two victims were their supporters, however, the area SHO said the slain hailed from Khuzdar and were associated with the Tableeghi Jamaat.

-Target killers detained-

On the other hand, two target killers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and banned organisations were detained during Rangers raid in PIB Colony and other areas.

A large number of weapons were also recovered from the possession of the suspects.

Rangers’ spokesperson has said that the target killer Ishtiaq alias Mama has been the unit in charge of MQM and was wanted in numerous cases including May 12 incident.

The other target killer Mehdi Badshah belongs to banned outfit and has confessed to murdering 22 people.

Meanwhile, Rangers have also taken three suspects into their custody on Sunday from Rizvia society.

Rangers carried out a targeted search operation on a tip-off and banned the movement of residents while shutting down the entry and exit points.

A house-to-house search was conducted and the suspects were arrested.

They were shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation.

  1. what a terrible religion where clerics are leaders of known terrorist groups responsible for targeted killings…in other parts of the world these mullahs would be know as criminal gang leaders…
