Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar granted bail in two more cases

An anti-terrorism court Saturday (today) granted bail to Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar in two cases.

He has been granted bail in a case pertaining to hate speech (May 12 tragedy case) and is likely to be released soon.

Reports said 39 FIRs have been registered against Akhtar. He is apparently just one step away from release as he has acquired bail in 34 out of 35 cases. The last case in which the MQM leader is seeking bail is pertaining to the treatment of terrorists.

Earlier, Waseem Akhtar was sent to Central Jail in the capacity of an accused in terror case against former petroleum minister, Dr Asim Hussain and May 12 tragedy case.

Akhtar’s plea for extension in interim bail was also rejected by an anti-terrorism court in the aforementioned cases.

He was nominated in the case that was registered under terror charges in November last year at North Nazimabad Police Station. Pak Sarzameen Party’s Anees Qaimkhani, Pakistan People’s Party’s Abdul Qadir Patel and MQM’s Rauf Siddique were among the four detainees. He also demanded the authorities to provide him with an office in the prison for the purpose.
