Islamabad Mayor and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz said that in order to provide quality recreational and sports facilities to the residents particularly to the youth of the city, sports grounds would be upgraded and more sports ground would be developed in other sectors to meet the requirement of the community.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting held at CDA Headquarters on Wednesday. The meeting reviewed the sports and recreational facilities being provided to the residents by Sports and Culture Directorate of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI). The meeting was attended by CDA director general (administration) and senior officers of Sports and Culture Directorate.
Sheikh Anser Aziz said that the residents of the Islamabad have the right to utilise the sports grounds of the city and in order to ensure healthy sports facilities to the residents not only existing grounds are being upgraded but a comprehensive strategy has been evolved to develop more grounds in the sectors where grounds are less in number as compared to the requirement of community.
He said that elected representatives along with officers and officials of MCI would be responsible for maintenance of grounds of their respective constituency, and added that Sports and Culture Directorate would be revived for making Islamabad a hub of sports and culture activities.
Sheikh Anser Aziz was briefed that there are 50 developed grounds in the city for different sports including 16 cricket, 12 football, four tennis courts and 15 multipurpose sports grounds.
