Professional group of Hamid Khan defeats Asma Jahangir’s group after six years in the Supreme Court Bar Association’s (SCBA) annual elections held on Monday.
Professional’s nominee Rashid Rizvi stood victorious after defeating former law Minster Farooq H Naik of Asma Jahangir group who was also supported by PPP and PML-N.
Around 2650 members of SCBA exercised their right of vote to elect the new body for 2016-17.
The election was hotly contested where PTI backed Professional group’s Rashid Rizvi lead the polls securing 1289 votes while Farooq was the runner up with 1060 votes.
For the office of Secretary SCBA, Professional group’s Aftab Bajwa also defeated Asma Jahangir group’s Safdar by a close margin of 115 votes. Aftab Bajwa received 1060 votes while Bajwa bagged 945 votes.
