Dr Ansari demands implementation of Thalassemia Bill

Renowned Hematologist and Omair Sana General Secretary Foundation (OSF) Dr Saqib Hussain Ansari has demanded of the government to ensure implementation of Thalassemia Prevention Bill. Addressing a meeting of the foundation, Dr Ansari said that educational institutes should also play their due role to create awareness in the society in connection with prevention of Thalassemia. He said that the sole purpose for establishing the foundation was to eliminate the disease and create awareness among the masses in this regard. Dr Ansari said that the honour of establishing very first Thalassemia prevention center in Pakistan went to OSF. He added that the center was founded in 2008 and large scale measures had been taken to eliminate the disease from the society. He elaborated that the foundation established a Thalassemia screening in University of Karachi where blood samples of more than 5000 students were screened.  He vowed to eliminate the disease from the society. He praised the non-governmental organizations for their contribution in creating awareness to reduce the chances of the disease spread.  He also stressed the need of active participation from all segments of the society to pursue the noble cause of elimination of the disease.
