Condemning the blockades on the Peshawar-Islamabad motorway, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Pervaiz Khattak said on Monday that no decision had been taken to shutdown Islamabad, adding that he was heading to the capital only to meet his party leader.

Speaking to a private television channel, he said, “We were arriving in Islamabad unarmed. We could not bear to see our province cut off from the country”.

Earlier, police used tear gas shells against PTI convoy led by Pervaiz Khattak to Islamabad for the party’s planned ‘lockdown’ of the capital on November 02. This latest action may prove to be the worst among the ruling government’s recent spate of blunders in dealing with the protests in the capital.

Khattak said that anyone can protest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that he or his party doesn’t have any issues with such a protest.

He further claimed that no decision has been taken so far to shut down Islamabad; he was only going to the capital city to meet his party leader Imran Khan.

Clashes between security personnel and PTI workers were witnessed when the convoy was close to entering Punjab near the Swabi Interchange.

Enraged protesters also set multiple vehicles and bushes in the area on fire in Hazro, Motorway.

Meanwhile, the government has also enforced measures to deal with PTI workers reaching Islamabad. Containers have been brought to Islamabad to seal the Red Zone.
