Bollywood actor Vidya Balan — who will soon be starring in the upcoming suspense thriller Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh – shared that she only picks projects if she feels she can do justice to them.
“Many times, it happens that, although I like the story and the character I have been asked to play, I do not take it up. As an actor, I tend to contribute to the film so, I choose those that I can do justice to,” Vidya said, at the trailer launch of the film.
Ironically, the Parineeta star came to the event in an auto-rickshaw with no makeup at all. Speaking of her experience of shooting, Balan who also featured in 2012’s Kahaani added, “We went to a small place in Kalimpong (West Bengal) for shooting. I think, since the place is a little isolated, we managed to keep it a secret. On the other hand, it is a thriller film. So, one should know everything only when watching the film.”
Balan went on to praise film-maker Sujoy Ghosh, saying that she shared a great camaraderie with him. “Sujoy and I love fighting with each other. We are either really fighting or really working hard at making a film,” she revealed. “In between, we are not talking to each other. When we did start talking, we did two films back to back, Te3n and now, Kahaani 2. I had actually said yes to another film with Sujoy but I had health issues so took a break from work.”
The 38-year-old actor, who has mostly acted in women-centric films, was also asked about not making any films with superstars. To this, Balan responded, “Maybe because I didn’t have the opportunity and also, I really like to stand on my own feet. Please don’t misinterpret me but I don’t put my hands on anyone’s shoulder to stand tall.”
In Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh, Balan is playing the character of Durga Rani Singh who unveils the dark past of Vidya Sinha, the character she portrayed in Kahaani. This links Sinha to Durga Rani Singh, a criminal on the run for kidnapping and murder. The forthcoming film also stars Arjun Rampal and is set to release on December 2, 2016.
