A Chinese Firm has shown interest in setting up a manufacturing unit in Pakistan to locally produce set-top box for DTH and digital cable TV.
The Chinese firm – Telecast Technology specialises in the manufacturing of digital CATV equipment, analogue pay TV systems, and MMDS systems and visiting Pakistan these days.
The officials of the Company are holding meetings with government officials including Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chairman, Absar Alam.
PEMRA is in process of auctioning DTH licenses in Pakistan and is hoping to auction three DTH licenses by end of November 2016.
PEMRA on Tuesday said it has shortlisted 16 companies for bidding and final auction is to take place during last week of November 2016.
PEMRA is also in process of digitising the cable TV network in the country and it has already asked cable operators to start deploying digital Cable TV network.
An earlier deadline of May 30, 2016, was set for complete digitisation of Cable TV network in the country, however, after input from cable TV operator this deadline was postponed.
According to PEMRA, Chinese firm asked for Authority’s support in setting up its manufacturing unit in Pakistan, for which Absar Alam assured of all possible support but asked the delegation to submit a more detailed proposal for proper perusal.
