2 dead as boiler explodes in Karachi factory

A powerful explosion rocked a factory on Friday in Karachi’s Shafiq Colony area as the boiler burst and caught fire, leaving two labourers dead.

According to rescue sources, three fire brigade vehicles were summoned to the site and were able to put out the fire. However, two labourers were severely injured in the blast and died on the way to the hospital.

Accidents such as these are common in factories in Pakistan, where occupational safety measures mostly exist on paper. Earlier this month three labourers died after they fell into a tank in a chemical factory in Port Qasim. The victims’ families had claimed there were no safety arrangements for the workers in the factory.
