Polio drive: Target set to vaccinate 2.2M children

 

A high-level meeting on Wednesday set a target to administer polio drop to 2.2million children of 188 union councils of Karachi.

According to details, Commissioner Aijaz Ahmed Khan conducted a meeting of senior officers to review a six-day polio vaccination campaign in the city that ended on October 1. However, the meeting set a target to cover all 188 union councils of Karachi and administer polio drops to 2.2million children.

Local officials, representative of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), town health officers and other concerned officers were briefed on the polio vaccination.

The commissioner expressed satisfaction to the achieved targets. He said this was our national duty to end polio from Karachi, adding that Polio would be eliminated at every cost. He urged the officers to work with the dedication to end this crippling disease. He said this was our national duty to give a good future to our children.

He asked to concentrate on those children who had not have polio drops as yet. A decision was also taken by the Commissioner that the next polio vaccination would start from the 24th October. Vaccination would be held in all the Union councils of Karachi and 2.2million children would be vaccinated during it. He appealed to the parents to cooperate with the polio workers for their better future.

The meeting was attended by the Health Secretary Muhammad Usman Chachar, oversight committee’s coordinator Shahnaz Wazeer Ali, Emergency operation center coordinator Fayyaz Jatoi, commissioner polio task force coordinator Dr Nusrat Ali, Bill Gates and Melinda Foundation’s consultant Dr Altaf Bosan, Provincial consultant Dr Ahmed Ali Sheikh and all the deputy commissioners of Karachi.
