Punjab govt launches ‘Women-on-Wheels’ campaign in Rawalpindi

Chief Minister Special Monitoring Unit (Law and Order) launches its Women-on-Wheels campaign in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, in collaboration with City Traffic Police and City District Government Rawalpindi. The launch was held at the National College of Arts, Liaqatbagh Road and was attended by the DCO Rawalpindi, SMU-Law and Order Head Salman Sufi, Rawalpindi CTO Rawalpindi and Honda Atlas Country Manager Tasneem Shuja.

The Rawalpindi Women-on-Wheels trainings are set to begin consequent to the launch of the campaign.

The campaign has been launched in Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore and Multan where approximately 1500 women have received the trainings. Given its prior success in 4 major districts of Punjab, the Women-on-Wheels campaign is to be implemented in all 36 districts in order to empower the women of Rawalpindi to rightfully claim their place in the public space.

SMU Head Salman Sufi briefed the audience regarding the campaign and explained the registration and training process which will be followed by a rally. He further said the Punjab government offered full support to empower its women.

The Rawalpindi DCO commended the joint efforts of Special Monitoring Unit-Law and Order, City District Government and City Traffic Police Rawalpindi for taking the initiative. He further encouraged women from all ages and walks of life to participate in the trainings.

The participants showed enthusiasm for the Women-on-Wheels campaign and lauded the chief minister’s efforts to provide platforms for women to effectively attain mobility and thereby becoming independent citizens.
