Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chairman Absar Alam said on Tuesday that first phase of operation against illegal Indian Director to Home (DTH) television has been completed successfully.
Addressing a press conference here he said that several arrests have been made and equipment used in this illegal business confiscated.
He said that this was a long battle as this illegal business has been done for decades.
The chairman gave credit of the successful operation to Pemra teams which conducted raids in all parts of the country.
He appreciated the federal and provincial governments, Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), cable operators and the masses for their cooperation in making this operation successful.
He rubbished the impression that the operation has been launched at the behest of someone.
He said in April, the Prime Minister had tasked him to establish the writ of the authority and in August deadline of October 15 was given for stoppage of illegal Indian content from electronic media.
