Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif constituted an inquiry committee which is headed by additional chief secretary to start probe into the alleged faulty marking in the intermediate (Part-I) examinations conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Lahore on Monday (today).
The Chief Minister Inspection Team’s chairman and a member of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), will visit the BISE’s head office to see how the exam and marking system worked.
The BISE has reportedly received 13,000 applications so far from students seeking rechecking of their papers/answer sheets.
The decision was made after protests erupted against the board’s management after reports of miss marking and poor counting by the officials of BISE Lahore.
Thousands of students held protest demonstration in the previous week and demanded to resolve their issues.
After the protests, BISE Lahore announced for paper rechecking and started getting applications.
The team also held a meeting on Sunday in which the BISE officials, including Chairman Prof Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail, were also present.
BISE Lahore Chairman Prof Muhammad Ismail in the meeting asked regular appearing candidates of intermediate part one to submit their application for rechecking to their respective colleges whereas the private appearing students would have to submit their application at BISE Lahore office.
The chairman further directed the officials of BISE, engaged with rechecking, that they should complete the rechecking process as soon as possible and inform the student through SMS service as it would be convenient for them to appear at BISE Lahore on proper time.
The chairman had also advised BISE Lahore Controller Nasir Jamil to get the report about answer sheets on daily basis from the board’s secrecy branch. He also advised that any further mistake would not be acceptable.
According to a BISE official, not a single case related to wrong marking was reported in Lahore. A case was reported from Bahawalpur and it was about calculation/aggregate marks, he added. The data entry operator responsible for it has been suspended.
He said the board had announced to recheck only those answer sheets free of cost that appeared to have some sort of mistakes related to calculation of numbers, etc. If the BISE teams found no error, the applicants would be charged, he said.
He said since a message was wrongly circulated that the BISE would recheck answer sheets free of cost, a large number of applicants had sought rechecking.
The official said keeping in view the situation, it had been decided that those (regular candidates) interested in getting their answer sheets rechecked/re-examined must submit their applications through heads of their institutions. “Only private candidates can apply to the BISE directly.”
He said only those answer sheets in which errors/mistakes were detected would be shown to the candidates. Answer sheets carrying no error would not be shown to the candidates. Such candidates, he said, would be informed formally.
