President Mamnoon Hussain has urged the United Nations to fulfil its promises regarding the Kashmir issue in order to ensure durable peace in South Asia.
He was addressing a joint session of AJK Legislative Assembly and Kashmir Council in Muzaffarabad on Saturday.
The president said the Kashmir issue cannot be resolved until the people of Kashmir are granted the right to self-determination. He said if the UN resolutions and the Indian promises regarding the Kashmir issue were not honoured, peace in the region will remain a distant dream.
The president said India must withdraw long-imposed curfew in the occupied territory and revive the freedom of expression. The human rights groups should also be given access to the territory and detained innocent Kashmiris should be released.
Mamnoon Hussain said the martyrdom of Burhan Wani has infused a new spirit into the Kashmir freedom movement, and freedom is not too far.
He said Pakistan would never leave the Kashmiris alone in their struggle for the just cause, and it would continue moral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris. He paid rich tributes to the Kashmiris who sacrificed their lives for freedom.
