Anxious to quell anti-India protests in occupied Kashmir, Indian forces are carrying out their most severe crackdown in more than two decades against civilian protesters, arresting more than 8,000 this summer across the disputed Himalayan territory, police officials said.

That includes 450 or so civilians being held, possibly for up to six months without trial, under a harsh security law criticised as a human rights violation.

India has said the separatist rebels and civilians who helped them were undermining the country’s territorial integrity and forcing authorities to keep India-controlled portion of Kashmir under tight control.

“This is, so far, the biggest crackdown against miscreants,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity because he was not authorised to share details of the crackdown.

For weeks, Indian authorities have carried out night time raids, rolling curfews and stops at roadblocks, but have failed to stop the attacks and angry public rallies.

INDIAN FORCES FAIL TO RESCUE BUILDING FROM ATTACKERS:

Meanwhile, Indian forces remained unsuccessful after two days to break the siege of two attackers on a government building in Pampore area.

To confront the attackers, special troops of Indian army, paramilitary forces and police were present in the area, but they could not clear the building even after the passage of two days. According to Indian media, heavy fire was exchanged between the attackers and forces on Monday.

Explosions were also heard whereas one army soldier was reported injured.

This is the second time the three-building complex has come under attack this year after at least a three-day long gunfight in February left three military commandos dead among seven persons.

NORMAL LIFE REMAINS DEAD ON 95TH CONSECUTIVE DAY

The puppet authorities continue to impose curfew and other restrictions in Srinagar and other areas of the territory to prevent people from holding demonstrations against the civilian killings and taking out Muharram processions.

According to reports, defying curfew, people took out a Muharram procession from Shamaswari Khanqah in Srinagar. Indian forces resorted to teargas shelling to prevent mourners from moving ahead. However, the procession managed to reach its destination at Haba Kadal despite heavy the curbs.

Indian troops and police personnel subjected the Muharram mourners to brute force in Badgam also. Meanwhile, normal life remained affected in the Kashmir Valley on the 95th consecutive day, today, due to complete shutdown against civilian killings by Indian forces.

‘RSS RALLIES IN IOK AIMED TO SUPPRESS MUSLIMS’

Meanwhile, Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement expressed serious concern over rallies of extremist Hindu organisation, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), in Jammu division, saying these rallies were aimed at creating hatred and volatile atmosphere to suppress the Muslims of the region.

According to KMS, DeM General Secretary Nahida Nasreen in a statement issued said, “These rallies are aimed at harassing the Muslims and put them under psychological stress and pressurise them so that they do not speak against the horrifying and ruthless atrocities in Kashmir.”

She said the people of Kashmir Valley were with the Muslims of Jammu division and will always stand by them.

Meanwhile, Nahida Nasreen said, the illegally detained party Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi, had been put in distressful condition in Baramulla sub-jail and only a few of her relatives were allowed to meet her.

Meanwhile, the Working Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement (JKPM), Mir Shahid Saleem, in a statement issued in Jammu strongly condemned the PDP-led regime for letting the communal forces to carry out their provocative activities to hurt the sentiments and feelings of the Muslim community.

He deplored that on the one hand, the occupation authorities were not allowing Milaad and Muharram processions to take place while on the other, the goons of RSS had been given a free hand to take out marches in the streets of a very sensitive Chenab valley region.

  1. India will do whatever is right to defend her territory and to protect her law abiding citizens. Sri Lanka wiped out LTTE. There were a few who cried over 'human genocide and atrocities' carried out by Sri Lankan army with tacit support from China. I do not remember anybody from Pakistan crying or criticizing Sri Lanka!

  2. If you are so interested in Indian affairs, why not join hands with India in quelling terrorism in the region?
