Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Friday named his favourite spinners of all time and the list of three included compatriot and former leg-spinner Anil Kumble, Australia leg-spin legend Shane Warne and the Pakistan spin legend Saqlain Mushtaq – an off-spinner like the Indian himself.
Harbhajan was talking to his fans on Facebook when he made this comment.
The 36-year-old is recently in India and was blessed with a baby girl, Hinaya Heer, in July this year. He termed his first-born as the greatest happiness in his life.
“It’s the greatest happiness in life,” said Harbhajan. “It’s bigger than all my cricketing achievements. Of course, I am proud of what I have achieved as a cricketer. I have taken so many wickets for India and won the World Cup, but being a father is an even more beautiful feeling. It changes you as a person,” he added.
The right-arm off-spinner believes family always comes first, even before cricket.
Harbhajan then heaped praise on Indian Test captain Virat Kohli calling him the future leader in ODIs as well.
“Virat is a fantastic player for India,” he said. “He is doing so well in Test cricket as captain, but I think he is also going to lead India in ODIs in future.”
He then compared Kohli to Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and said the former is his current favourite now.
“In fact, I have always said that Sachin Tendulkar is my all-time favourite cricketer. And now my current favourite is Kohli,” he said.
Look at that! Even during times of hostility, an Indian cricket player has such high regards for Pakistani cricketer Saqlain another equally great player. This comes from the bottom of Harbhajan's heart and goes to show how much freedom of speech citizens enjoy in secular India.
