India has decided to completely seal its borders with Pakistan by December 2018.

Announcing the decision through a statement issued on Friday, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh added that comprehensive monitoring would also take place along the border.

A meeting of India’s Home Ministry was held earlier which was attended by ministers of occupied Kashmir, Punjab, Gujrat and Rajasthan-the four Indian states which border Pakistan.

During the meeting it was decided that the 2,300 kilometre border with Pakistan should be sealed and radars, CCTV camera, and laser fences should be installed at the border.

India has suffered two attacks along its border this year, the first in Pathankot and the second more recently at the Uri military base which killed 18 Indian soldiers.

Following the Uri attack, tensions between the South Asian neighbours escalated as India without any proof blamed Pakistan.

On September 29, Indian forces fired across the Line on Control (LoC) resulting in two Pakistani soldiers being martyred. Indian claims of this being a surgical strike were rubbished by Pakistan. India also failed to provide any evidence to substantiate its claim.
