Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has delegated powers to its Chairman for taking action against companies airing Indian contents in violation of laws under section 30 (3) of the authority’s ordinance.
The decision to delegate powers to the chairman has been taken at a meeting held the other day, according to a press release issued Tuesday.
Under the powers, the PEMRA chairman is authorised to take action against such companies telecasting Indian channels and Indian contents in violation of the laws without any notice.
The authority took the decision keeping in view the deadline of October 15 following which it would take action against the violators without any discrimination.
PEMRA will take the decision in this regard after the deadline given to the channels that are October 15. It may be mentioned that on August 31 PEMRA barred showing Indian contents.
PEMRA said that Pakistani people have demanded banning Indian contents due to the ongoing tense situation between both the countries.
From October 16 the Authority will take action according to PEMRA section 30 (3).
