Foreign Office (FO) Spokesman Nafees Zakaria Thursday said India is constantly impeding the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) process and pointed out that in the past many SAARC summits were postponed due to the negative attitude of India.
Responding to questions during his weekly news briefing in Islamabad today, the spokesman said India is desperate to divert world attention from the atrocities being committed by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir.
To a question, he said India breached ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in which two Pakistani soldiers were martyred.
Zakaria said Pakistan cannot be isolated by mere statements of Indian leaders. He said Pakistan enjoys friendly and close relations with comity of nations. He said the prime minister’s meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the UNGA, Chinese investment, Pak-Russia joint military exercise, the arrival of Iranian naval ships in Karachi, projects with Central Asian Republics are making Indian claims a laughing stock.
Replying to a question about Indian leadership statements about the suspension of Indus Waters Treaty, he said Pakistan has not officially received any communication in this regard. He said under article-12 of the treaty, India cannot alternate or revoke the Indus Waters Treaty unilaterally. He said the treaty is binding on the two countries and not time barred.
The FO spokesman said PM Nawaz Sharif has effectively highlighted atrocities being committed by the Indian forces in occupied Kashmir.
He reiterated that Pakistan would continue raising Indian atrocities in IOK at the UN, OIC, human rights organisations and other international fora. He said the PM’s envoys are visiting various world capitals to sensitise elected members and civil societies about the Kashmir dispute. He said the international community is consistently apprised and pursued to use its influence to stop Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.
