Ceasefire violations: PM says desire for peace shouldn’t be mistaken as ‘our weakness’

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif spoke over telephone on Thursday and discussed the situation at the Line of Control (LoC).

According to reports, the army chief apprised the prime minister over the firing incidents at the LoC.

General Raheel Sharif told Prime Minister Sharif that Indian claims of surgical strikes were “baseless”.

The prime minister said that the entire nation had high morale and was committed to defending the country along with the armed forces.

Two Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom when Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing across the LoC on Thursday morning, the ISPR confirmed.

The ISPR however dismissed Indian claims of surgical strikes, adding that there had been cross-border fire initiated and conducted by India which was existential phenomenon.

PM CONDEMNS UNPROVOKED, NAKED AGGRESSION OF INDIAN FORCES:

Strongly condemning unprovoked and naked aggression of Indian forces along the LoC, Prime Minister Sharif said Pakistan could thwart any evil design to undermine the sovereignty of Pakistan.

He declared that Pakistan’s valiant armed forces were fully capable of defending the territorial integrity of the country.

He also warned that Pakistan’s intent for peaceful neighbourhood should not be mistaken as its weakness. “Enemy should not expect anything good from us if our sovereignty is challenged,” he went on to say.

Sharif paid rich tribute to the soldiers who were martyred by unprovoked firing of Indian forces.

PM SUMMONS MEETING OF FEDERAL CABINET TO DISCUSS IOK, LOC VIOLATIONS:

Meanwhile Prime Minister Sharif has summoned cabinet meeting on Friday (today) to discuss the situation in Indian-Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and recent ceasefire violations by Indian forces at the LoC.

The premier will also apprise the federal cabinet of details of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and his meetings with world leaders.

PM Sharif is also likely to take important steps on IOK and recent ceasefire violations at the LOC, for which a joint parliamentary session of parliament has also been summoned on Wednesday.

The prime minister reiterated that Kashmir was an unfinished agenda of the partition of the Subcontinent, adding that the people of occupied Kashmir were struggling for their right to self-determination.

Earlier, two Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom when Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing across the LoC on Thursday morning. The unprovoked firing at the LoC in Kel and Lipa sectors began at 2:30 AM and continued till 8:00 AM, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

“India conducted a surgical strike at the LoC on Thursday to prevent terrorists from attacking Indian soil,” said India’s DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh at a press conference in New Delhi, according to Indian media.

Pakistan rebuffed the claims with the ISPR saying, “There has been no surgical strike by India, instead there had been cross border fire initiated and conducted by Indian forces which is an existential phenomenon”.

Of late, tensions soared high between the two nuclear-armed adversaries over occupied Kashmir and an attack on Indian army’s brigade headquarters in Uri, which left 18 soldiers dead.
