In the latest development in the ongoing saga of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, the chief of the party’s “Pakistan” faction, Farooq Sattar, publicly distanced himself from himself in a press conference at Nine-Zero, Karachi.
“In light of the recent footage that has come to light where I am seen agreeing with former party leader Altaf Hussain’s controversial statements, I would like to say that I have nothing, I repeat, nothing, to do with myself anymore,” said Farooq Sattar.
“I am an element that has been involved in destabilisation the situation in Karachi and has also been endorsing anti-Pakistan slogans, therefore I urge all true Muttahida voters to stop supporting me and support me instead,” he continued.
“Don’t believe anything that Farooq Sattar says,” chimed in party leader Khwaja Izhar-ul-Hassan, sitting next to Farooq Sattar.
The move is an important milestone. “With this,” said Dr Laeeq Afridi, chairman, department of mathematics, LUMS, “the leaders of all different factions of the MQM have taken all possible positions on all possible issues. All the permutations and combinations have been occupied. There is literally no development that can happen henceforth that can be termed as new.”
