A driver in California has been fined for using a mannequin as a passenger in order to gain access to the car pool lane.
Car pool lanes are common in the United States and intended to encourage motorists to ride-share and cut congestion.
According to the Orange County Register, one motorist decided to be clever.
However, his ruse was discovered when he veered out of the lane in front of a police motorcyclist.
The sharp-eyed officer noticed the “passenger” was, in fact, a legless mannequin wearing a hoodie.
Lt. Darrin Devereux ordered the miscreant motorist to pull over.
“The driver…related that he would now just accept the fact he needed to sit in traffic like everyone else,” Lt Devereux said.
A legless dummy was perhaps the worst disguise police have come across from motorists who are too mean to ride share and too impatient to remain in their own lane.
However, this Californian motorist could find his ruse rather costly with the minimum fine set at $481 (£371).
