SHC comments on petition seeking approval of tall building near aerodrome

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought comments from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and Civil Aviation Authority on a petition seeking approval of a 17-storied building near aerodrome.

The SHC bench, headed by Justice Nadeem Akhter, was hearing the petition filed by a citizen, Muhammad Akram Memon, who submitted that he had sought an approval of 17-storey building in Tipu Sultan Road, but the SBCA was not processing his application.

The petitioner submitted that he was told by the SBCA that his application was not being processed as the construction was within the radius of 15 km from the aerodrome. “The SBCA has no right to restrain someone from establishing building nearer to the aerodrome, only the federal government has these powers under section 6-A of Civil Aviation Act, 1960,” he added.

After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to the SBCA, Civil Aviation Authority and deputy attorney general to file the comments in the next hearing. The bench also fixed the case on a fast track since the petitioner is a senior citizen.
