Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has deferred the collection of sales tax on services (STS) from Cable Operators Association of Pakistan (CAP) in the larger interest of people of Sindh using cable service.
He took this decision during his meeting with CAP delegation led by CAP Chairman Khalid Arain, CAP Vice Chairman Ghufran Mujtaba, President Akhlaq Ahmed, President Mahmood Ahmed, Joint Secretary Zahir Ali and Information Secretary Lala Lateef.
The CAP office-bearers said that the imposition of sales tax on cable operators would pass on to the burden on the poor customers watching TV channels through their cables.
On this, the chief minister issued a directive to Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) to hold collection of STS and take the matter to its board meeting for a final decision. The chief minister said that he was trying to make the city of Karachi beautiful.
The cable distribution system of CAP is “rough and tough,” he said. The strand of unravelled cables could be seen hanging on poles and he urged them to make it systematic. “We would extend you maximum support if you need anything from the government,” he said.
Khalid Arain told the chief minister that they have started making their cable system underground. He assured the chief minister that they would also contribute to making the city beautiful.
