Skittles teaches Trump Jr. about PR

Skittles coolly taught Donald Trump Jr a fitting lesson in public relations after the latter posted a tweet comparing Syrian refugees to the fruit-flavoured sweets.

“If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful? That’s our Syria refugee problem,” Trump Jr posted on the micro-blogging website. The post sparked widespread criticism.

However, the Wrigley Company, which owns the Skittles brand, was faultlessly succinct in its response to Trump Jr. “Skittles are candy. Refugees are people,” Wrigley Americas Vice President of Corporate Affairs Denise Young said in a statement released to The Hollywood Reporter.

“We don’t feel it’s an appropriate analogy. We will respectfully refrain from further commentary as anything we say could be misinterpreted as marketing,” the company said.

Separately, the man who took the photograph of Skittles has told the BBC that he was also an erstwhile refugee. “This was not done with my permission, I don’t support his politics and I would never take his money to use it,” said United Kingdom-based David Kittos.
