A local guard shot and wounded an assailant near the Israeli embassy in Ankara on Wednesday, an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
“The staff is safe. The attacker was wounded before he reached the embassy,” the spokesman said in a text message. “The assailant was shot and wounded by a local security man.”
There were conflicting reports of a person being injured or possibly killed, and it was unclear whether they were an attacker or victim.
A spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in London confirmed an attempted attack but said the assailants were prevented from entering the embassy building in Ankara.
