Rawalpindi’s Customs Court Tuesday granted model Ayyan Ali’s plea for exemption of attending the hearing of currency smuggling case.
The model’s counsel Latif Khosa had filed a petition stating that his client could not appear before the court due to personal commitments.
The court accepted his plea and adjourned the hearing till 6th October.
It should be noted that Ayyan Ali was arrested on March 14, 2015, on charges of money laundering after customs officials recovered over 500,000 US dollars from her luggage at Islamabad airport before she could reportedly board a flight to Dubai.
Customs Inspector Ejaz Mehmood, who was in-charge of the team that arrested the model at the airport, was shot dead by unknown assailants at his home in June last year.
Mehmood’s widow in a petition in court claimed that her spouse was killed at the behest of the model. She had pleaded to the court to keep Ayyan Ali’s name on the exit control list until the murder case of her husband decided.
A lower court had issued non-bailable arrest warrant for model Ayaan Ali in customs inspector Ejaz Mehmood’s murder case on Thursday.
