Sindh traffic police announced Monday that loaded vehicles will not be allowed on the city’s Shahrah-e-Faisal road from 7am to 11pm.

A spokesperson from the traffic police said, “The decision has been made to ensure smooth traffic flow on Shahrah-e-Faisal, the city’s main artery.”

“Anyone found to be disobeying the rule would be penalised,” traffic police said.

Earlier this month it was announced that rickshaws would also be banned from the road. However, according to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Ameer Sheikh, the ban was later suspended for a month during which a public survey would be conducted to decide if rickshaws should be allowed on the road.

He had also said that the traffic police was making bus and motorcycle lanes to enable smooth traffic on the road. “Bus-stop boards and other signboards will also hang at different places of this track in a few days,” he had said.

DIG Ameer Sheikh had added that from Sept 26 a new rule would be implemented on Shahrah-e-Faisal banning three people from riding on one motorcycle as it causes accidents.

A new traffic plan was recently implemented for Shahrah-e-Faisal with 132 traffic policemen deployed to manage traffic on the road. The special force is referred to as Shahrah-e-Faisal Force.

These policemen are to have vehicles, 44 motorcycles and 8 lifters, the DIG Traffic had said. The policemen would work in two shifts and those disrupting traffic would be charged under anti-terrorism laws.
