LG lays new drainage, sewerage pipelines in Bhara Kahu

The outdated drainage and sewerage system in Bhara Kahu was a constant source of nuisance and irritation for the dwellers of the locality, as flooding of streets and roads during heavy rains was a routine matter.

Realising this fact, the new local government (LG) started laying new drainage and sewerage pipelines in Bhara Kahu to help solve the problem being faced by the inhabitants for long.

Talking to Pakistan Today, residents of the area said it was good that eventually the matter which was aggravating each year and becoming serious got attention of the authority concerned.

They said the local government started yielding fruits in Bhara Kahu as a considerable improvement in drainage and sewerage system has been witnessed in the last few weeks.

They said the elected representatives were taking great interest in addressing the serious issues the area is facing since long, which is good sign.

Shahid Ali, a resident of Danial Town, told this scribe that they often face great ordeal during downpours because of flooded streets and roads. However, he said, new drainage and sewerage pipelines have been laid in some parts of Bhara Kahu owing to which the situation has improved to a great extent.

He said the local government representatives deserved all appreciations for their efforts to resolve the problems, which were not resolved by the MNAs for the last few decades, as they could only be seen during election campaign.

Haji Zahid Abbasi, a 65-year-old businessman, said that population of Bhara Kahu witnessed a massive unplanned increase during the last one decade, causing colossal problems due to non-attention of the authority concerned.

However, the newly elected representatives are giving some attention to resolve the problems, adding that they should also take some action for removing the heaps of garbage from the area, causing serious illness, especially among children.

Another resident, Saleem said the poor drainage and sewerage system in the city resulted in accumulation of rainwater up to the level of more than one foot at all major points of the area.

He said the authority concerned was now working in some areas on improving drainage and sewerage system in the city to avert inundation of streets and roads.

However, Malik Israr, a resident of Mahala Qaziabad, was critical of the local representatives and said that they paid no heed for the resolution of serious problems facing the area. He said that not a project of a penny had been launched in their area, which is disappointing.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Chairman Raja Abdul Wahid Kiyani said they would leave no stone unturned to lay new drainage and sewerage pipelines in Bhara Kahu.

He said that new drainage and sewerage pipelines would be laid in all areas though it would take some time.

About heaps of garbage lying in open areas, he said that steps would be taken for the resolution of the problems.
