Police arrest MQM’s Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hasan

MQM leader Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hasan was arrested by SSP Malir Rao Anwar on Friday after his residence was raided by the police.

Khawaja Izhar told the media that he was on his way home when the police carried out the raid.

He added that only women were present at home and that they were harassed.

Khawaja Izhar said, “Policemen in plain clothing came to the house in 6-8 mobiles.”

“They claimed to be from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD),” he added.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of reports of the raid and ordered the suspension of the station house officer at a Sohrab Goth police station.

The chief minister also sought a report from Inspector General Police Sindh A.D. Khawaja regarding the raid.

The MQM has been in the midst of a crisis since party chief Altaf Hussain issued controversial anti-Pakistan statements. Following the incident, party leadership in Pakistan distanced itself from the London offices and Altaf.

Farooq Sattar condemned Hasan’s arrest and while speaking to the media said, “The Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly has been arrested without a warrant.”

“I asked Rao Anwar multiple times for a warrant and reason for the arrest but he did no present either,” Sattar added.

Meanwhile, Sindh CM has suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar, according to chief minister spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the CTD denied the conducting the raid.
